Three days at Olympus Mountain
Join us on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that everyone should experience!
Setting off from Gortsia, we enter the dense beech and pine forest and ascend to 1940 meters where we find the Petrostruga Refuge. as well as a beautiful balcony overlooking the Thermaic Gulf. We spend the night at the shelter and the next morning we continue to the Plateau of the Muses.
We begin the hike among the century-old Heldreich’s pines and the mountain reveals its untamed side with the alternating vegetation on the alpine zone and neck. Quick stop for photographs as the view of the Gulf, as well as the Plateau of the Muses, is spectacular. Homestretch to the Apostolidis Refuge at 2697m where we will spend the night. We have lunch, rest and in the afternoon we head to the top of Mytikas at 2918m. We hike along the path under the Throne of Zeus (aka Stefani), the second highest peak at 2914m. We reach the base of the Mytikas slope (Louki), secure ourselves and start our scrabble to the summit.
The Pantheon is astounding! Peaks are popping up all around, as the sun setting from the highest point in Greece devinely tinges every single soul. We descend towards the refuge. Come morning we have our breakfast and start our way back to the Prions, crossing Refuge A (Spilios Agapitos) at 2100m.
